Bavaro’s Pizza Napoletana & Pastaria

My obsession with Neapolitan-style pizza is strong right now. Anytime I have a craving for #allofthepizza lately, I Google the nearest pizzeria that serves delicious, handcrafted pizza baked in a wood-fired oven.

There aren’t many pizza places that serve Neapolitan pizza in the Orlando area, so I was excited to check Bavaro’s off of my pizza bucket list. Located in a small plaza at 1468 Tuskawilla Rd. in Winter Springs, it is easy to miss the restaurant if you aren’t paying attention.

The kitchen is completely open where diners can watch their food being prepared and then placed into the imported Italian wood-fired brick oven.

Eats: We decided to start with the Antipasto Bavaro which was a large portion of buffalo mozzarella (my fave), prosciutto, EVOO and wood-fired bread. For our entrees, my fiance and I each chose a pizza. I went with the traditional Margherita and Chris chose the Diavola, a spicy pizza with mixed peppers, home-made spicy sausage and basil. We ended our meal with a slice of tiramisu. The ladyfingers in Bavaro’s version are soaked for 18 hours. Impressive!

The tasty: Like other Neapolitan pizzerias, Bavaro’s imports their Double 00 flour from Italy as well as the tomatoes used in their sauce. Their pasta sauce is so tasty, they sell it in over 2,000 retail locations (though I haven’t been able to spot it in my local Publix yet). We were impressed with how quickly our food came out from the kitchen, and I couldn’t stop raving about the tiramisu. It was definitely a sweet finish to the evening.

The owner of the Winter Springs location was working in the kitchen that evening and came out to chat with us and other diners. That was a nice a touch.

The not so tasty: My only dislike about Bavaro’s was their wine/beer list. I was looking forward to enjoying a glass of wine, but their list was fairly sparse.

Cost: Appetizers and entrees range in price from $10 to $15 each.

I enjoyed dining at Bavaro’s and because the service and food were both excellent, I have plans to return! If you are looking for authentic Neapolitan-style pizza, add this restaurant to your list!
